Welcome to CorrEra Physical Therapy

What is your pelvic floor?

Bones give your body a frame and your muscles and ligaments support this frame. The pelvic bones form a giant empty ring – without pelvic floor muscles your entire abdominal contents would just fall out of this opening! Your pelvic floor is a sling of muscles running from your pubic bone to your tailbone and they have three main jobs: supportive function, sphincteric (bowel and bladder) function, and sexual function.

They work with your abdominals, deep back, and diaphragm in a connected web of tissue. When these muscles are not working well together or have their normal activity interrupted, you may begin to experience what we call “Pelvic floor dysfunction”.

What are symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction?

Everyone has a pelvic floor, though not everyone pays much attention to it. You are likely a candidate for conservative pelvic floor rehab if you notice symptoms affecting:

  • bladder control – frequent urination, urgency to empty the bladder, leaking of the bladder, difficulty emptying the bladder, bladder pain,  urinary incontinence (loss of bladder control)
  • bowel habits – urgency to empty the bowels, leaking of the bowels, constipation, bowel and fecal incontinence (loss of bowel control)
  • pelvic pain – pelvic pressure, the feeling of “falling out” in the pelvis, tailbone pain, pain during intercourse, visceral pain

Women who are pregnant or postpartum are among a population who should have screening for prevention and treatment of dysfunction affecting the abdominals and pelvic floor.

We are here to help

Just because symptoms may be common, it does not mean that they need to be your “normal”. You deserve the attention to have your concerns addressed, and this is exactly what you receive at CorrEra Physical Therapy. All patients receive one-on-one evaluation and treatment during every visit.

If you think you’re alone in your symptoms, rest assured, you’re not. With the compassion, direction, resources, and expertise we offer we will work with you to get your body going in the right direction. As Dr. Francis Peabody said, “The secret to caring for a patient is to care for the patient,” and we hold this to be true for every patient.

As doctors of physical therapy, Sarah and Kelsey have the skills and training to assess and treat the musculoskeletal system, and with their additional training and expertise they have dedicated their practice to treating patients who are experiencing symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction in its many forms.

Patient Testimonials

So Thankful To Have Been Referred!

I had been experiencing pelvic pain for a decade after I suffered a traumatic fall on our honeymoon. Life continued, and even though intimate time with my husband was painful, our family grew to a beautiful family of five in just over four years. Upon getting my referral to Sarah, I was skeptical to even make that first phone call because I thought there was no hope for me to ever be able lessen my pain. (I had discussed my pain with various doctors and regular physical therapists only getting responses such as, “…there’s probably nothing you can do… that’s a tough area to heal… I’m sorry but you’ve done all you can.”)  During our first phone call, Sarah gave me hope that my situation could progress for the better. And it did!

Felt Completely Comfortable!

I started seeing Sarah at about 3 months postpartum due to pelvic floor pain. While getting treated for pelvic floor pain related to an episiotomy, Sarah also discovered that I had diastasis recti from my pregnancy. Within a couple months I was able to get my abdomen back to normal with a series of exercises that Sarah showed me. Also through a series of in office therapy and at home exercises, my pelvic floor pain was healed within 6 months. Sarah made me feel completely comfortable during therapy sessions as she has great people skills and is highly knowledgeable in pelvic floor rehabilitation.

Sensitive Interpersonal Skills!

I’m so glad I consulted with Sarah instead of trying to guide myself. The specific exercises she provided – especially the sequences – helped me improve quickly and on a regular basis. I would not have known about the specific exercises on my own – they were custom made! Her sensitive interpersonal skills and style are so non-judgmental and supportive. I always looked forward to our appointments. Her people skills are wonderful!
